1.0 SUMMARY

Within The Old American Can Factory is a new, bright, spacious rental intaglio print studio set up by Lothar Osterburg, a masterprinter and renown teacher of printmaking and photogravure. This studio is intended as a private platemaking and editioning studio for individuals in need of a professional and quiet workspace. Lothar Osterburg has operated his own etching and photogravure studio since 1993, and has helped design the current print studios at Crown Point Press, CA;  planned and renovated the new print studio at the Lacoste School of the Arts, currently operated by the Savanna College of Arts; and is working on a substantial renovation of the print studio at Bard College. 2.0 FEATURES

2.1 PRINTING

Brand Etching Press 32" x 50” with basic set of blankets. (For critical work use own blankets.)

Ideal for monoprinting, editioning and platemaking in etching. Photogravure is being set up.
Print dryer with blower 24x36” (expandable.)
Work tables
Hot plate
Glass palette
Paper soaking tray and sink

2.2 PLATEMAKING

Etchant is ferric chloride for use with copper only!
Multi-use etching sink and trays
Aquatint box 14x16” with Rosin
Gralab Timer
Hot plate for grounds and aquatint
Window fan for ventilation
Oily waste can

2.3 PHOTOGRAVURE PLATEMAKING

Ferric chloride in all beaumes for photogravure
 

2.4 SUPPLIES
All grounds, solvents, inks and paper need to be supplied by the renter. They can be left in the storage shelves provided in the space.
Rosin for the aquatint box will be supplied.
Ferric chloride will be supplied
Limited supplies may be purchased privately from Lothar Osterburg Studio.
 

2.5 AMENITIES

Storage shelves for subscribers and day users
Hand sink
Chairs
Radio
 

2.6 AMENITIES TO BE ADDED

Dark curtains or blinds  to darken the room
Gelatin Tissue drying cabinet
Vacuum Frame with UV fluorescent lights (12x16” contact frame and exposure unit already exist)

3.0 SERVICES

Classes in Photogravure will be offered regularly by Lothar Osterburg.

Classes in Etching will be offered in the future.
Access to plate cutter, darkroom and additional photogravure platemaking setups or assistance can be arranged privately with Lothar Osterburg Studio located next door.

4.0 SCHEDULE + RATES

General hours are 9:00am - 11:59 pm 365 days per year.

Rental slots and special rates through June 2008 are as follows:

        09:00 am - 02:59 pm  |  6.0 hours  |  Mon-Fri $75  Sat-Sun $90

        03:00 pm - 05:59 pm  |  3.0 hours  |  Mon-Fri $40  Sat-Sun $50

        06:00 pm - 11:59 pm  |  6.0 hours  |  Mon-Fri $75  Sat-Sun $90

Discounts will be available for bookings of 18.0 hours or more per week and for bookings of 4.0 consecutive weeks or more. A subscription and  membership plan is being developed, and will be offered in late 2006.
