Nicola Ginzel
Like all my work that I choose to transform, there is a story behind it as to why I may select the item or object. I migrate to things that are pieces of people, events and circumstances, which are all charged with a certain history and emotional content of the moment. It is an intimate exchange signified by something material... the small stuff that fills our lives that often creates the most meaning. By claiming the object or item as part of my memory, I then take it to give it a new identity. The piece becomes part of a larger dialogue and the dichotomy of contradictions is apparent - for instance in recent work, Chpstck Wrapr Ddorf and SchweineVmMetzger, mass production made precious and unique, paper made for a specific utilitarian intent becomes textile, excess versus scarcity and Eastern versus Western Culture.
