XØ Projects Inc (XØ:p) is a company engaged in the crafting of land, structures and experiences for people to inhabit and enjoy which are mindful, practical and sustainable in all their aspects as well as in the methods and processes making them manifest.
SERVICES | ACTIVITIES
XØ:p's professional engagements involve overlapping activities in art, design and commerce, and include: planning, architecture and design; property development and management; production of visual and performing arts projects related to the built environment; and communication strategy and design to support the above.

PLANNING + DESIGN >
>> XØ:p develops, curates and operates buildings and facilities for the creative industries. XØ:p also provides development, leasing and management services to industrial and commercial property owners as clients or partners. >> XØ:p produces and presents performing, visual and literary arts projects at The Old American Can Factory complex in Gowanus Brooklyn and elsewhere. At The (OA) Can Factory complex, XØ:p offers unique venue opportunities for site-specific work, and could additionally provide artistic, technical and logistical support for such projects. XØ Projects Inc (XØ:p) continues to grow its integrated knowledge base which span various disciplines related to understanding the built environment. Following are highlights of XØ:p's organizational evolution:
>> XØ:p was founded in 1987 as an architectural planning and design office named, S.P.A.C.E.
>> In 1989, S.P.A.C.E. incorporated as Space Read Inc (SRI) when it partnered with MK Read & Co Inc to develop The Factories at Parlor City in Binghamton, NY and other commercial and industrial projects.
>> In 1992, SRI established The Read Group in another partnership with MK Read and Co Inc to research & develop, manufacture and distribute modular building systems, materials and components for a three-year period. For additional information go to < PRODUCTS > THE READ GROUP.
>> In 1996, SRI continued its planning, architecture and design practice, employing project-based teams and collaborating with other firms. SRI introduces its new name XØ Projects Inc. For additional information go to < PROJECTS > PLANNING + ARCHITECTURE.
>> In 2000, XØ:p began to also produce and present site-specific visual and performing arts projects primarily at The Old American Can Factory, in an effort to explore new forms of "dynamic" architecture. For project information go to < PROJECTS > PERFORMANCE + VISUAL ART.
>> In 2003, XØ:p began offering development services to industrial and commercial property owners as clients and partners in addition to planning and design services. XØ:p began to redevelop The Old American Can Factory in Gowanus as an industrial complex with an emphasis on art and design. For project information go to < PLACES > THE OLD AMERICAN CAN FACTORY.

PEOPLE | COLLABORATORS
XØ:p was founded and is directed by Nathan F. Elbogen who has been engaged in planning, architecture & design as well as the visual & performing arts since 1987. XØ:p works with project-based teams comprised of part-time and consulting staff as well as with other firms in partnership. From 1987 through 1999, XØ:p had employed collectively innumerable persons as full-time and part-time staff, several who continue to collaborate with XØ:p. Following are selected profiles, listed alphabetically, of individuals who have worked in Planning + Design as partner or staff in substantive collaboration:
>> Ariel Krasnow is a registered architect and urban designer currently working on development initiatives at XØ:p. Previously she managed projects in architecture, planning & development at The Environmental Simulation Center and POP Development Corp. She received an MS degree in Urban Design & Architecture from Columbia University; an MArch degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and, a BA degree in Urban Design from New York University. >> Michel Trocmé is an urban designer and a partner in the planning firm Urban Strategies Inc. based in Toronto. < WWW.URBANSTRATEGIES.INC > He received an MS degree in Urban Design from Harvard GSD and a BArch from the University of Toronto, and has taught Urban Design at the University of Toronto and Harvard University. >> Paul Mezei teaches Industrial & Architectural Design at The University of Troronto. He received a BArch from the University Waterloo in Ontario. Projects with XØ:p include: Avalanche Solutions.
